You need to be logged in to use the chatbox.
[Omnicat] <Nyaa> We will of course be playing Star Citizen. If you have a game package with alpha access, you can join our subversion efforts right here. See you in the 'verse!
[07-26, 11:09] <Profuse> What do you do at 4:09 in the morning, because you feel depressed and have trouble breathing which keeps you from sleep? and you're so broke thinking what should I do tomorrow
[07-26, 11:07] <Profuse> Mr. Nyaa you are my role model in life, and I have always looked up to you. I got a personal question to ask you
[07-26, 09:37] <OneCrazyRussian> I am playing 1080p 10bit High Profile fine on Core2Duo E6750 with it. With DirectVobSub it even makes softsub with big texture sizes FAST
[07-26, 09:35] <OneCrazyRussian> Although my GTX8800 doesn't want to do hardware render of Flash videos, only HW decode
[07-26, 09:34] <OneCrazyRussian> Anything from 2006 onward supports hardware h.264, ancient times are before that
[07-26, 09:31] <Senfu> I figured already, nothing could support that GPU.
[07-26, 09:30] <Senfu> I actually tried MadVR on a friends laptop (keep in mind it's from ancient times) and it didn't support it.
[07-26, 09:24] <sarachikorita> Low end is disposable. That should be enough food for thought to make a person shy away from the absolute cheapest of the cheap
[07-26, 09:23] <sarachikorita> Well, yeah. Midrange is probably a better longterm investment for someone who doesn't have a lot of money... I run my computers into the ground
[07-26, 09:22] <sarachikorita> It's not unusual for me to have some crappy, upscaled, 1080i TS that I have to run a ton of filters on and in the end it becomes just 480p...
[07-26, 09:21] <Nyaa> The point being that low-end components actually have worse price/performance ratios, so the total cost of ownership becomes higher.
[07-26, 09:19] <sarachikorita> Pretty sure I can play 720p HEVC. I can play 1080p h.264. That's more than enough, considering I rarely deal with anything higher than 720 except as source material, and most of that is still mpeg-2.
[07-26, 09:17] <Nyaa> What's low-end today is already useless. Consider the completely pointless market segment that is $50 graphics cards.
[07-26, 09:16] <Nyaa> 4T is fast becoming a liability.
[07-26, 09:16] <sarachikorita> I usually go by what was low end 5 years ago - a bit lower standard than Nyaa, but still, if your computer's older than that, you really need to upgrade. My computer's no spring chicken, I've had it for like 3 years and got it thirdhand.
[07-26, 09:09] <Hoshizora> i5 2500k ftw
[07-26, 08:54] <Nyaa> I was speaking generally. Personally, I consider anything that's slower than the mainstream high-end of three years ago too slow. That means components such as 2600K/GTX 680/7970 will all be replaced soon enough.
[07-26, 08:49] <Abunja> well, you've seen mine before and you said it isn't that bad. mine is playing fine with madVR. though, i thought i can get more out of it if i had a high spec'd pc.
[07-26, 08:48] <>>=2> as for madVR: there a profiles with change rules so you can set HorribleSubs to medium debanding, 10bit rips to no deabnding and everything else to low.
[07-26, 08:46] <Nyaa> (You want the A10-7850K if so.)
[07-26, 08:45] <Nyaa> http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/processors/desktop/a-series-apu
[07-26, 08:44] <>>=2> mpv android port never ;_;
[07-26, 08:42] <Nyaa> The playback guide is optimal in all relevant cases. If your hardware is too slow for that, you need to upgrade. Those AMD Kaveri APUs are quite capable and cheap.
[07-26, 08:42] <Abunja> using madVR, i mean
[07-26, 08:39] <Abunja> let me ask, Mr. Nyaa. is the playback guide is the optimal setting for our toasters? or is there a better setting for high-end ones?
[07-26, 08:35] <Nyaa> Even the slowest integrated GPUs of today can use madVR just fine.
[07-26, 08:34] <Nyaa> Fortunately, the playback guide isn't an optional read if you want to use this chatbox.
[07-26, 08:30] <DmonHiro> so, bottom line, many people are too dumb to playback 10-bit softsubs.
[07-26, 08:04] <Abunja> i love my toaster
[07-26, 07:04] <Profuse> When using VLC player with these TV media devices everything lags. Like you're watching something in slow-mo
[07-26, 07:03] <Profuse> I'm too poor to make or buy a HTPC so I buy these crappy ass tv media device that cost 100 dollars, not one of them work with VLC player. It's a pain in the ass using handbrake to convert everything and sometimes the files don't even work.
[07-26, 06:31] <sarachikorita> Two solutions: MPV and VLC. Take your pick. No matter the OS.
[07-26, 06:21] <Rakuzo> install cccp then play your mkv softsub video... done.
[07-26, 05:35] <CrossRyuu> deadfish, hi10 and ipunisher right the ripoffs
[07-26, 05:27] <Hoshizora> >VLC
[07-26, 04:34] <FaiT> or just use vlc....
[07-26, 04:15] <tgamtgamorigin> My post is erased...
[07-26, 04:10] <junh1024> You don't need to be a linux kernel developer to play softsubs.
[07-26, 03:55] <BakaYuusha> @Faggot Your name and comment made me laf. Opening any kind of file for anything on a computer is never that simple. :P
[07-26, 03:54] <Hoshizora> It seems to be for so many people.
[07-26, 03:15] <eternia> too hard?
[07-26, 03:15] <eternia> install lav filters for the videos and xy-vs filters for subtitles
[07-26, 02:55] <Faggot> In both cases, you only need to open the file and everything works. How the fuck is one simpler than the other?
[07-26, 02:38] <BakaYuusha> I don't think it's that they're retarded. Mp4s are just simple for people who don't wanna screw with stuff or have issues but mkvs are better for sure.
[07-26, 02:35] <herkz> i don't have playback issues with most things on this website but then again i'm not retarded like some people seem to be
[07-26, 02:33] <astrum> LOL! Shit. I choked there. Nice one.
[07-26, 02:31] <BakaYuusha> People use DeadFish cuz there's no playback issues. They're good.
[07-26, 01:26] <deanzel> Step 1: Create beautiful soft-subs for your release. Step 2: Have Deadfish rip off your release and release an 8-bit hardsub encode that more users will download due to noobs not knowing better. Step 3: .... Step 4: PROFIT!
[07-26, 01:25] <Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ ♥❄♥ ☆ CaeX ☆ ♥❄♥ Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ> they deserve it
[07-26, 01:25] <Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ ♥❄♥ ☆ CaeX ☆ ♥❄♥ Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ> I just want to end the discrimination and put the honorifics track first on releases with more than one sub track
[07-26, 00:58] <Abunja> hello, rob
[07-26, 00:57] <Abunja> sugoi, mister donut. where did you get your hands on these BDs? that spam release lol
[07-26, 00:44] <OdinYggd> .MKV bundled releases are the best I think. That way you can choose what subtitle and soundtrack to use of what it offers, and it can be quickly converted to .avi or .mp4 for portable device access in whatever format you prefer
[07-25, 23:20] <sarachikorita> What Hoshizora said. By the way, we've got multiple TS perfectionists and we still softsub. :P
[07-25, 23:16] <BakaYuusha> Softsubs are inconvenient at times for people who don't know what they're doing. For instance the people who complain that subs aren't showing up cuz they don't know how to work their player. A lot of people also have problems with 10bit encodes and complain of soft subs not showing up all the time. Softsubs are still nice if you know what you're doing and don't wanna wait for the nice people to re-encode releases.
[07-25, 23:12] <BakaYuusha> Hardsubs and mp4s are loved for the ease of things. If you're not a hard core tech nerd and just wanna watch anime on anything with any player the look for mp4s.
[07-25, 22:29] <Hoshizora> DON'T Hardsub. Anything. For any reason. Ever. Hardsubbing is the best way to burn out encoders and delay releases forever. If you think you need hardsubs to make a good release, you’re either retarded or a TS perfectionist (they’re mostly equivalent anyway).
[07-25, 22:16] <OneCrazyRussian> Softsub allows: better styling, optional animation, use of customized coordinates and etc.
[07-25, 22:15] <OneCrazyRussian> The bad happens when hardsubbed video is stretched. Text looks more blurry the more stretching AND post-effect shaders are applied to video
[07-25, 22:12] <Artemix> What its so bad about hardsubbed subs?, I don't notice any difference.
[07-25, 22:02] <herkz> neither of them sub anything you retard
[07-25, 22:02] <aers> theres nothing HS does that no one else can do. its not like how-to-rip-CR is some big secret.
[07-25, 21:43] <RobbyLob> @MinnaSubs What are some things you've subbed which HorribleSubs has as well? The qualitative differences between your translations is about the only thing worth judging/criticizing.
[07-25, 21:36] <[TRVE]> It's unlikely, but not impossible.
[07-25, 21:35] <[TRVE]> And what will you do when HorribleSubs cease to exist one day?
[07-25, 21:18] <Kips> why would you wanna rip horriblesubs better or faster or anything a golden painted shit is still shit
[07-25, 20:31] <MinnaSubs> maybe :)
[07-25, 19:54] <BakaYuusha> So it's a race then? :P
[07-25, 19:38] <MinnaSubs> than*
[07-25, 19:38] <MinnaSubs> @BakaYuusha we're not re-uploading what HS put up . we rip as well and sometimes we are fast then HS
[07-25, 19:04] <[TRVE]> Thank you, Captain Obv- sarachikorita.
[07-25, 18:56] <BakaYuusha> @MinnaSubs Why are you just reuploading what HorribleSubs has already put up. Am I missing something here?
[07-25, 18:49] <MinnaSubs> we're back .
[07-25, 18:47] <Kips> whats shit or isnt shit is objective; aka why theres still siscon animes being mad. someone, somewhere likes that kinda trash
[07-25, 18:30] <Abunja> oh, sorry. my bad. its just me assuming
[07-25, 18:27] <sarachikorita> @ lifebaka and [TRVE]: 90% of everything sucks. Just ask Theodore Sturgeon
[07-25, 18:27] <Arkasia> A gaming magazine I used to read always explained that they like mecha to compensate for their small **** size.
[07-25, 18:26] <hazardous> maybe they want to make GiTS age a reality :)
[07-25, 18:09] <eternalmetal> I wonder why Japan is so into robotics?
[07-25, 17:58] <[TRVE]> And Abunja - wrong. I gladly watch and rewatch good animated cartoons.
[07-25, 17:58] <[TRVE]> Most of everything sucks, indeed. The case with anime is that it's a niche medium, known by only a small amount of people and produced by an even smaller amount of people. And only a fraction of those people has actual talent, both for writing and for direction, storyboarding etc. So you can imagine that actual worthwhile content is very scarce, even more scarce compared to wider-spread media. That's why it's worthless - good content is so rare it's practically inexistent.
[07-25, 17:52] <Senfu> I'm not taking him serious haha, just bored
[07-25, 17:21] <Abunja> dont take TRVE so seriously, lifebaka. he finds animation/cartoons unappealing so you cant do anything about it
[07-25, 17:16] <Senfu> Blahblahblah TRVE saying weird stuff again yada yada
[07-25, 17:07] <lifebaka> Ah, but of course most anime sucks. I can certainly agree with that. Most anime kinda' sucks. So do most novels, most movies, most TV shows, most of pretty much everything. What I don't agree with is saying that anime, as a whole, is worthless simply because most of it sucks.
[07-25, 16:54] <[TRVE]> And you seem to assume that "artistic merit" is the sole thing that defines quality. Besides, you mentioned a "new" medium, seemingly telling me it just needs time. I went along with both and am trying to figure out how much time it needs.
[07-25, 16:38] <lifebaka> You see, [TRVE], your question is based on the assumption that people acknowledging the artistic merit of a medium matters. I don't agree with that premise. So I won't answer that question.
[07-25, 16:34] <[TRVE]> So, how long did it take?
[07-25, 16:30] <lifebaka> Film didn't "acquire" artistic value. It always had it. People just stopped being pretentious assholes who could pretend that it wasn't important.
[07-25, 16:26] <[TRVE]> So, how long did it take for film to acquire artistic value? And how long has anime been around?
[07-25, 16:24] <lifebaka> Eh, there was a time when people didn't think that film had artistic value. There was a time when people didn't think the novel, as a form, had artistic value. So you'll have to excuse me for finding arguments that anime, or other new media, doesn't have artistic value somewhat unconvincing.
[07-25, 16:09] <OneCrazyRussian> >throwaway medium yourself
[07-25, 16:03] <[TRVE]> Plus, when a throwaway medium only sports a handful of good titles, you can't do anything else but judge it by its shit.
[07-25, 16:00] <OneCrazyRussian> Get low get low get low HEREWEGOOO
[07-25, 16:00] <[TRVE]> And lifebaka, I didn't know Twilight had anything to do with literature.
[07-25, 15:59] <[TRVE]> If Macross 7 is even remotely like the other parts of the franchise, then the bar is set really low. Come on, put more thought into it.
[07-25, 15:16] <eternalmetal> All literature should be judged by comparisons with Alfred Bester's The Stars My Destination. And all anime to Macross 7.
[07-25, 14:33] <lifebaka> You could easily point the same line of criticism at any media, [TRVE]. Anime shouldn't be judged by its shit any more than literature is judged by Twilight.
[07-25, 12:54] <NotSoYans> oh, TRVE, I'm fully aware of that. Everyone has their oppinon and like it or not you will express it simehow. I still find it as a representation of society, though a scewed one. Besides because these, more or less, are artistic works, the in-universe happenings can and most certainly will not make real world sense at times. Because seriously, no one can expect a comedy to be realistic.
