So how about instead of sneering and acting like a couple of big shots, you actually look at these subs and see if they contain any errors? Because they seem fine so far. Maybe you wish they had more FUNCTIONAL EQUIVALENCE. I don't even know what to think of your opinion since you defend FFF's GabDrop subs.

That's ruined? The Tsugaru thing is pretty minor, there was also a diagram in the show so it was pretty clear what they meant. Apparently Tsugaru is the name of both the strait and the peninsula, so the meaning is practically the same.

I don't understand the first objection since someone's just saying the "translator choice" is wrong without explaining the error. Based on the other one I wouldn't be surprised if it was just nitpicking.

I'd take minor discrepancies like this that don't actually change meaning over things like the use of full English idioms in place of Japanese ones. There's even a TL note in the episode which is a breath of fresh air.

List of things Doremi doesn't know:

☑ Japanese
☑ Geography

Will keep this list updated as news comes in.

>That's ruined? The Tsugaru thing is pretty minor, there was also a diagram in the show so it was pretty clear what they meant. Apparently Tsugaru is the name of both the strait and the peninsula, so the meaning is practically the same.

Nice excuses but it's still completely wrong.

>I don't understand the first objection since someone's just saying the "translator choice" is wrong without explaining the error. Based on the other one I wouldn't be surprised if it was just nitpicking.

But you don't know Japanese, so how can you judge how big of an error it is?

>I'd take minor discrepancies like this that don't actually change meaning over things like the use of full English idioms in place of Japanese ones. There's even a TL note in the episode which is a breath of fresh air.

Those aren't your two options. Nice strawman, though. Do you make them professionally?

>herkz deleted my comments criticizing his taste. nice safe space

I don't know Japanese, so instead of explaining what the error is, you expect me to just trust you? I don't really trust your opinion anymore, you seem to just double down when you're proven to be wrong, so the fact that you're just changing this to a "trust me" thing actually doesn't make me suspect you're right. You don't have to care what I think, but as soon as you retreat into "you don't know Japanese" it makes me suspect that you probably don't have a very good point and you would just rather I not find that out.

Well then you haven't really convinced me of anything. I don't understand what the error in that tweet is because it's not explained, the person just states that it is wrong. It's possible to explain this without me knowing Japanese. I realize you're not interested in doing that, though. I was under the mistaken impression that we were actually having a conversation here instead of just a pissing match.

Either way if this was up to herkz, it would have odd localization that makes no sense, no honorifics and no TL note, so as bad as the straight/peninsula scene was translated, i'd still much rather have this
herkz
Moderator
2017-03-02 at 05:05 UTC
He said the opposite meaning is what the Japanese actually is. Thus "rather than something sweet" and "probably not something heavy."*

Hell, I think you can just follow the logic of the translation to see something heavy is a bad idea if you're tired.

*I don't actually know the context of this, though.

Why do you think that's what other subs (that don't even exist yet) will be like, LeEbinMayMay? Why do you keep trying to strawman me? Why not just accept that these subs right here are bad without trying to redirect to some other mythical super-localized subs?
SemiTruckDriver

Yeah, clearly if they messed up such simple grammar in those two lines, surely there are no other errors.

Alternatively, that's just the only one I've seen anyone point out yet since this was just released.

I respectfully disagree with the claim the folks at Doremi don't know Japanese. Ladholyman and his twin brother Maceart both studied it in college. For anything they don't know themselves, they can call upon several others on staff who are fluent in that language.

Mixing up homonyms like the screen capture in Iae's post is a common error for those who don't have English as their first language. This sort of thing is usually caught and fixed during QC.

So I'm to understand Doremi is lacking in many areas as a fansub group correct? Why exactly are they a trusted group again?

To think this group is the only option for English subs on pretty much all of the Ojamajo Doremi franchise. Were their subs for its 200 some episodes good enough to earn them trusted status? I mean they had to be good enough at some point to have achieved it right?
Subs By Rock

even subdesu had trusted at one point or another
herkz

Because the requirements for trusted used to be much more lax. On the other hand, there's not really any reason to take it away unless the subs are really awful (or the uploader breaks rules repeatedly).
Xeiros
User

I don't understand the point of the trusted status. It doesn't actually mean that every release by the group has been assessed and found to meet a certain level of quality. That would take insane time and manpower. It only means a group is “trusted” to continue to show and maintain that level of quality in all of their other releases since.

So at some point one or perhaps several of Doremi's releases was judged and found to be good enough to earn trusted status, but now, based on these comments they clearly no longer deserve said status. It's supposed to be there at least in some small part to help users when looking for subgroups they can hahaha “trust”. Clearly Doremi is no longer one of those groups. So why are they still trusted?

Then again you did just say the requirements used to be more lax. Which groups that earned trusted then wouldn't now if they were to be reassessed besides this one? The basic idea behind it is admirable, but it just doesn't seem reasonable in its execution and only winds up giving people the wrong impression.

You straight up admitted Doremi's trusted status may as well not exist. Again why even have it in the first place? You made it quite clear how worthless it is. This release is from a green/blue group. That means it's good, right? No? What? Whadayamean a release from a trusted group is bad? That cannot be!

>This release is from a green/blue group. That means it's good, right?
Many green groups have utter garbage releases. Green is given if you know how to encode (not properly, just not fucking it up completely), and have readable subs, and actually finish a few series. Blue releases are A+ releases, which actually are reviewed by the nyaa staff and are supposed to be the best.

The best thing about the trusted system is that it helps users weed out all of the godawful Google Translate subs, ESL subs, and baby's first shareraw remuxes. Doremi obviously don't fall into any of those categories, so what's the point in making a big scene of revoking their status as a trustable group?

And going by their recent Aria the Avvenire releases compared to one of their older ones, let's say Heartcatch Precure, Doremi's releases don't seem to have changed for the worse, which begs the question; why do it now?

Trusted also helps weeds out possible malware, given the criteria one needs to fulfill in order to gain saod status, if you didn't realise.

Actually Doremi would not get trusted now because they don't release 10-bit encodes, which is a requirement.

I don't think this is actually true. I don't believe English-translated subs were judged on quality in the past like they are now.

No, just one of the requirements for subbed anime getting trusted is releasing 10-bit encodes, as it shows the subbers can keep up with changing technology (though 10-bit has been in use for over 5 years now).
