@HorribleSubs
For better compatibility you also have to hardsub (which is dumb). So just include the E-AC3 audio as a main track and maybe the AAC as secondary track. Or the 1080p with AC3 and the 720p with AAC. No reason to only use the worse audio for all releases.

@eXmendiC, i'll probably include ac3 as a secondary track since most people don't give a shit about quality anyway

Their 192k AAC sounds good enough IMO. But yeah, as eX said most players aren't compatible with softsubs anyway.

@HorribleSubs
But if the AC3 audio isn't playable for a video player, doesn't it auto switch to the other audio track (AAC)?

@ Kamiyanstinx
I can't believe how dumb you're. Go back to your cave or better extinct like the rest of your Neanderthals family.

Or at least use a different language tag in mkvmerge for the audio. So I can easily set up prefering the AC3 instead of AAC.

Just ditch the AAC tbh. Even DVD players can play AC3.

Maybe DVD players can play it but not all leechers can, apparently--I've seen multiple people complain about not being able to play the audio, and even if they're a minority, they're there. I think it's a perfectly reasonable decision to prioritize compatibility over minimal-to-modest quality gain.

It's hard for me to get excited about preserving the fine details of TV audio. Or, for that matter, the fine details of typical anime audio engineering.

Then they're obviously doing something wrong then. They shouldn't be taken into consideration.

If you cannot install vanilla VLC 64bit with reset setting by default and if required, lower the hardware acceleration if you have a shitty computer without GPU, just use your phone instead, at less 720p 8bit from deadfish/bakedfish or old horriblesubs 720p from 3 year ago would run fine on shitty high end 2011 phone like Galaxy S2 or HP touchpad (Dual Core Snapdragon from back then, scorpion generation work fine with those low quality release). Otherwise, buy a new toaster so you could heat yourself in winter.
